Mary Lou, what were your favorite subjects in high school?

If I had to choose my favorite subject in High School it would probably be art.  I liked drawing, painting, pottery and learning how to do different art projects.  My teacher entered one of my drawings in a contest without my knowledge once.  I was really surprised that he chose my drawing and that I won a ribbon for the drawing.

I was excited about my Spanish class.  I was hoping to be able to understand and speak Spanish.  I took Spanish I and II in high school and majored in

Spanish when I went to college.  I never learned to speak and understand it very well.  I learned a few words but I was never able to roll my r’s or pronounce things the right way. I have enough trouble pronouncing things the right way in English.  When we learned how to conjugate verbs in Spanish class, what my english teacher was trying to teach us finally made sense to me.  Brian and I enrolled in a Spanish class when we moved to San Diego in 2005 hoping to learn more.  I can understand a few words here and there but that’s all.

Home Economics was another favorite class.  The teacher taught a lot of the things I liked to do and other things I enjoyed learning.  We learned all about the differences of rugs and fabrics, and furniture, how to arrange flowers, how to cook and bake and sew.

I can’t forget behind the wheel driving in driver’s ed. It was so fun to be out during the day driving around on the roads of Toledo, I could feel the freedom.  My instructor was the high school basketball coach and a friend of my parents.

It seems that the classes I enjoyed the most were the classes where I could actually do something and not just memorize facts and dates.
