Swagerty/Aldrich Videos

This was taken in the mid 1950’s in Escalon, California. Floyd Swagerty had just purchased a 16 mm film camera, and wanted to get a “moving picture” of his Dad, Elmer, working on the farm. His mother, Pearl, is trying to get Elmer’s attention so they can “pose” for the picture. Moving pictures was a new concept then.

Each year, before Thanksgiving, the men, which consisted of Elmer Swagerty and his sons and other relatives, would go pheasant hunting in the fields of Elmer’s farm in Escalon, California. This was about 1953. Best guess is from the left: Richard Burton, Clem Swagerty, Harry Burton, Darrell Swagerty, and Ronnie Boone. Not pictured is Elmer Swagerty and Floyd Swagerty, the cameraman.

The families of Harry and Elsie Burton, Darrell and Nilma Swagerty, and Floyd and Melva Swagerty are gathered around late 1940’s and early 1950’s cars, including what looks like a Hudson. Donna Swagerty Shreve wrote a story titled, “One Time Too Many” that may explain the ’51 Hudson. The children are, from left to right, Richard Burton, Keith Swagerty, Tom Burton, Darrellyn Swagerty, Nancy Burton, Brian Swagerty, Jane Swagerty, and Donna Swagerty. This was taken at Elmer and Pearl’s dairy farm in Escalon, CA.
The Floyd and Melva Swagerty family visited the Harry and Elsie Burton family in San Jose, California, in the mid-1950’s. In order of appearance are: Donna Swagerty, Nancy Burton, Elsie Burton, Harry Burton, Richard Burton, Tom Burton, Jane Swagerty, Brian Swagerty, Melva Swagerty. Cameraman was Floyd Swagerty.

The Floyd and Melva Swagerty family visited the Darrell and Nilma Swagerty family in Cambell, California, in the mid 1950’s. In order of appearance are: Donna, Keith, Darrellyn, Brian, Jane, Nilma, and Darrell Swagerty.

This was filmed during a family reunion at Ida Aldrich’s house in Hughson, California, about 1956. One of the reasons for the gathering was that Wilbur and LuLu’s son, Web Swagerty was diagnosed with terminal cancer. In order of appearance are: Lisa Swagerty, Grant Swagerty, Mel Moorhead, Iona Swagerty Palmer, Donald Palmer, Web Swagerty, Everett Aldrich, Ruth Wood Aldrich, Jane Swagerty Hill, Clarence Aldrich, Ida Palmer Aldrich, Carla Swagerty, Cheryl Palmer, Ethel Aldrich Bohanan, Elmer Swagerty, Brian Swagerty, Melva Boone Swagerty, Lucy Aldrich Moorhead, Pearl Aldrich Swagerty, Warren Jensen, Mack Bohanan, Amy Lou Aldrich Jensen, Gladys Terry Swagerty.

This is a Swagerty Father’s Day family gathering at Darrell and Nilma Swagerty’s house in Cambell, CA, in 1956.
The Floyd and Melva Swagerty family visited the Clem and Effie Swagerty family in San Anselmo, California, about 1959. I (Brian) remember riding the ferry across the bay, because the San Rafael Bridge wasn’t built yet. In order of appearance are: Allan, Jane, Brian, Kathy, Lydia, Grant, Melva, Effie, and Clem Swagerty.
