Brian Swagerty is getting his front tooth pulled by his father, Floyd. Also pictured are his sisters Jane and Donna. This happened in 1955 in Stockton, CA.
Floyd Swagerty and three of his children, Donna, Brian, and Jane are flying a kite in the field at the end of their block. A community swimming pool (Belmont) was built in the coming years on this land. Our house is the third house from the end. This was filmed in 1955 in Stockton, CA.

The Sparks family, who lived across the street from the Floyd and Melva Swagerty family and on the corner, bought one of the first gas-powered lawn mowers in the neighborhood in 1956. Their boxer, Rocky, was a favorite among the area families, and Brian Swagerty would dog-sit him when he became too old to leave alone in the house at night. Spenser and Vivian and Larry Sparks are in the video.
The Floyd and Melva Swagerty family went camping at Big Basin State Park in the Santa Cruz mountains in 1956. They arranged to have baby Grant taken care of by Floyd’s parents, Elmer and Pearl. When they arrived to hand him off, Elmer and Pearl announced that they would be helping to care for him on the camping trip. They were coming with us! Melva wasn’t that excited. We took a beach day at the boardwalk beach in Santa Cruz.
